Today I added a GitHub link next to the Twitter link on the site.
Small change. Still changed the feel of the whole thing.
Twitter says presence. GitHub says structure. The GitHub is mostly empty right now, but that does not really matter. The point is that the link is there. And once it is there, the site says something slightly different.
This did not start as a product idea. It started with getting annoyed. Too many steps. Too much context switching. Too much dumb friction around something that should have been simple.
Writing was rarely the hard part. Publishing was.
Not technically hard. Just disruptive enough to break momentum. And after a while that gets stupid.
So I built a way around it. A private fix. Something that let me write, publish, correct, and continue without turning the whole process into admin.
That is all this was meant to be. Not a startup. Not a platform pitch. Just a better way to work.
But once something keeps working, you eventually notice a different question sitting underneath it. Not whether it helps me. I already know it does. The question is whether the useful part of it is only useful to me.
Not the writing. Not the visual style. Not the tone.
The mechanism.
The part that removes repeated steps. The part that makes part two feel connected to part one instead of starting from zero again. The part that lets publishing happen before overthinking kills it.
That part might be more general than the rest. Maybe. I am not pretending to know that yet.
Most personal systems are personal for a reason. Most of them should stay that way. But sometimes you build something to solve your own annoyance, and later realize the annoyance was never only yours.
If this ever becomes something other people could use, the personal layer would have to split from the structural one. The site can stay mine. The voice can stay mine. But the engine underneath it would have to be cleaned up.
Less dependent on my habits. Less tied to my head.
Less Dennis. More system.
That is different work. Not writing. More like translation.
I am not calling this a product. Not now. I am only noticing that the question exists now when it did not before. That usually means something changed.
Maybe nothing comes from that. Maybe something does. Either way, the GitHub link is there now.
